Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is a report from an agency approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), the report must show that your foreign credential is equal to a completed Canadian Secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.
You do not need to get ECA, if you have a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate but for those who have foreign school certificate will need to get their credential evaluate from the agency approved by CIC.
Why do i need ECA?
You must get all your credential evaluate if:
- You are planning to live and work in Canada and be considered for the program called Federal Skilled Worker (FSWP) under Express Entry.
- To be considered for the Federal Skilled Trade program or the Canadian Experience Class and you want points for your foreign certificate.
- To get a job in your field or at a certain level
- To get your work experience and professional credentials automatically recognized in Canada
- For you to be licensed to practice in a regulated profession.

You must get your ECA done only from one of the organizations designated by citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC) below:
- International Credential Assessment service of Canada
- World Education Services
- Comparative Education Service- University of Toronto school of continuing studies
- Medical Council of Canada (professional body for Doctors)
- Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (professional body for Pharmacists)
Processing time for evaluating your credential vary from designated organization listed above.
